Keeping Birds off MY Boat

Keeping those pesky birds off your boat or other aquatic vehicle can be a big hassle. If birds see your boat as an attractive roosting spot, or they find a source of food, then its going to be much harder to get them to leave. Boats are particularly vulnerable to birds landing because when you’re on the water, the boat is usually the only option for a nice landing spot.

How do you deter them from landing then? You’ve got to take away their potential landing spots, or make it so unappealing that they won’t want to come close to your boat.

To “take away” a bird’s landing spot, you’ve got to physically stop them from landing. This means that you’ll need to install what are commonly referred to as roost inhibitors. The best (most effective) roost inhibitors are bird spikes and bird netting. For a boat, your best bet is spikes, since you can directly install them on the ledges and railing that birds may land upon.

You can buy bird spikes (check out theĀ bird spikes online store) or make your own homemade bird spikes. Once you decide on what type of spike you’re using, you can view this how to install bird spikes installation video for some great methods on installing birds spikes.
